About the event

HOC members fondly remember the visits made to the Forest of Dean in the hope of seeing Nightjar, led by the late Nick Smith. Sadly, Nick is no longer with us, but his legacy remains, one of them being this particular trip.

The first section of our walk will be around RSPB Nagshead, taking in several of the woodland trails, and hoping to see Pied and Spotted Flycatchers plus other woodland species.

The second part involves a short drive to Crabtree Hill where, once dusk is upon us, we hope to see displaying Nightjar and roding Woodcock, plus other heathland species.

The walks are fairly even with some slight inclines. A torch would be advisable as the return walk back to the car park is usually undertaken in darkness. Also, insect repellent may be required to counter the evening midges.
