Dan Webb will be running a half day bird id course for HOC at Goldcliff Lagoons, Newport on Saturday 21st September. Meet at 09.00am at the entrance to Goldcliff Lagoons (OS map reference) ST369829. The course is aimed at birders who want to learn the basics of wader identification, as well as ageing and sexing individuals and understanding the differences between sub-species.
Hopefully there will be good views of several species, and there will be the opportunity to learn more about the migration routes these birds are taking, where they breed, where they winter and what they feed upon. In addition, we will look at seasonal and age-related plumage change and some of the factors affecting populations locally and on a global scale.
If you are interested in attending please register your details with Robert Taylor at firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible. Places will be allocated strictly on a first come, first served basis. There will need to be a minimum of five people for the course to be viable. We will contact you by email to confirm that the course will go ahead as soon as five people have registered.
Full details of the course are available here.
